A new study finds consuming probiotics has a small but significant effect in lowering blood pressure. Probiotics can be found in yogurt, cheese, and fermented soy products.
The study included nine randomized trials with a total of 543 participants who were older than 18 and used probiotic products with live bacteria. While the reductions in blood pressure were modest in the study, scientists suggests that there is a potential for greater effect when blood pressure is elevated to begin with, multiple species or large quantities of bacteria are consumed or when probiotics are used for longer than two months.
